Frank stood up to a boisterous standing room only crowd and spoke about his many contorted current projects Monday, April 28, 2008. He comes off as just a regular guy and and lulls you into thinking it is easy. You know he is a star architect because during the first 5 0r 10 minutes of his talk, camera phones were flashing on him nonstop. He even asked the crowd, "are you really taking my picture?"
Frank Gehry, previously known as Francis Goldberg, formerly "doing chain link fences and all that shit" and part of "five bags of shit" at USC, whatever that was, has really made some cool buildings. The thing I like most about the whole deal is that he has taken architects back to the "master builder" concept where we as architects must become builders and constructors. Gehry builds so many study models of these seemingly crazy buildings that are not really crazy at all. They are so well thought out in evey dimension both in his customized CATIA software to a 1" = 10'-0" scale study model of the interior of Disney Hall to work out the acoustics.
